I Say NO!!

Music & Lyrics by Markeisha Ensley

In this TYA musical, Tommy is an intelligent 9-year old who loves learning and language, but is an outright bully— loud, stubborn and bratty. He struggles with his own insecurities and doesn’t EVER want to try new things. By the end of the musical, he realizes the impact of his words and changes for the better.

Scene 3 (Setting: school playground at recess)
On the playground, Tommy plays by himself, sometimes reading, sometimes watching the other kids playing together. Walking past Tommy to get to her favorite reading spot, a classmate accidentally trips and falls and Tommy seizes the opportunity to mock her for being awkward by using another impressive word— saying it loud enough so the other students can hear. When another student starts to protest, Tommy turns his teasing towards him. Tommy is quick with his words, but he is putting on an act. He tries to convince the other kids that his way is the right way, but underneath the brash cockiness is an awkward kid that just wants to be liked.
